Credit card fraud? my mistake. i’m like scared.?
i’m like really scared, what happened was i wanted an audio book off of a site and it was giving a free trial and i didn’t have a credit card, i’m only a kid, 16 years old, and i went online and got a valid one, which someone got from dividing the numbers on a real number, idk how it went but i used the number and a friend told me it was fraud and im like really scared , idk if i should call the site and tell them what happened and apologize because i dident know… what should i do?
what should i do tho? i dident think it whould harm putting it in , i canceled my membership straight after and deleted the #.
It was just a free trial, nothing was charged, and it was just a random number so i highly doubt it was an actual persons number. but, What should i do? should i just wait around for something to happen? should i call audible?
first of all, if the number went through it was a real person’s account. When you do a credit card transaction, the system verifies the real account to make sure that the number is valid, that the expiry date is valid and that there are sufficient funds available. So, if it went through, the information was real and belonged to a real person.
What do you need to do?
Well, first of all, calm down.
You called and cancelled the trial. That’s perfect. It is not fraud yet – you didn’t get anything and nothing was charged. Call back and double-check to make sure that it as cancelled. some customer service people will tell you it’s cancelled when it isn’t and you do’nt want the real person to be charged later.
At this point, even if the transaction does go through, it’s unlikely that it will be traced to your computer or anything. Banks are more concerned with the really big fraud, not one random transaction from one random computer. Even it is somehow traced, you should then admit what you did and they will likely not press criminal charges, realizing that it was a mistake and that you didn’t intend to steal.
I’m sure that it goes without saying that you shouldn’t mess around with those sites. It’s suspicious that they’re giving out fake credit card numbers for free – criminals do not make money by giving out free services. maybe you should also run a virus scan and make sure that nothing unusual (like a backdoor or virus) was loaded on your computer when you went to the site.
